To make the platform as easy as possible, we've allowed users to start collecting with an anonymous account.

However, claiming your account will give you access to creating and tracking your individual contributions as well as give you the ability to create your own challenges. This is a great way to get people together and contribute to a common goal. You can read more about what challenges are here or how to create a challenge here.

Before you can claim your account please follow these steps to download the Litterati App:

  1. Download the Littearti app from either the Apple iOS or Google Play Store.

  2. After launching the app, you'll go through the initial setup screen, please follow the on-screen prompts until you close out the camera.

Be sure to enable location settings, otherwise, your litter data will be automatically located in the middle of the ocean at latitude/longitude 0,0.

Here's how to claim and create your account:

  1. First, open the Litterati App.

  2. Tap on the Profile Icon at the top left of the screen. From that page, you should see an anonymous profile name like "Emerald Activist" or "Teal Planeteer".

  3. Tap on the light blue button below that reads "Claim Your Account".

  4. From this next page, you should have a few options to sign up: Email, Facebook, and AppleID*. (Please note: If you'd like to access the Dashboard to view more information on challenges you've joined, you'll need to create an account via Email only. More info on that here: Participant View)

  5. Once you've signed up, you'll be able to put in your name and user name.

  6. Hit save at the top right, and you're all set!

If you have any questions or requests, contact us at, or send us a direct message on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.

*Please note: AppleID is privacy-focused, which means that it will anonymize your email address within our system. This is a benefit for privacy, however, it also makes support issues more complicated as we won't be able to easily find your account within our system. Please provide as much information as you can when reaching out for support.
